This is the space in which I’m supposed to supply the reader with recitations of my experience,
education, and show history. However, my formal education makes up only
a small part of who I am today. Every time I paint I learn something new. Likewise,
I disagree with the industry wide practice requiring the artist to list the shows they have been in. That kind
of information speaks only to the business of Art and not the Artist at all. For if a piece of Art moves a collector
then nothing else could or should affect their decision to purchase it. To purchase it for any other reason is an insult
to creativity itself.
To know what you prefer
instead of humbly saying Amen to what the world
tells you you ought to prefer,
is to have kept your soul alive.
Robert Louis Stevenson
Certainly, artwork can be judged on its own merits. An
artist’s “tapestry” is woven with much more than the sources of their experience and education. I would not wish for my work to find its way into a collection based on the number and quality of shows
I have been in, or where I went to school, etc. That is a politically based venue
reserved for shallow souls.
Having said all of that, I feel the need to stress this point.
I feel it is important to share as much or as little information as is comfortable with my clients, when and if the
need arises. I do have much to share, (and learn), about Art and Creativity. If my work finds its way to you, and it “feels right” for you, let’s talk further!
Thank you.
